Talk - Glenn D’Hondt – De Kunst van Verwondering

Creativiteit is geen techniek die je alleen toepast wanneer het nodig is. Het is een manier van zijn die door elk aspect van je leven stroomt. Het begint met het loslaten van zekerheden en het omarmen van het onbekende. Zoals Socrates ooit zei: “Ik weet dat ik niets weet.” Dit besef van niet-weten is geen belemmering, maar juist een ingang naar verwondering, de staat waarin je volledig openstaat voor de werkelijkheid en waarin creativiteit kan bloeien.

In deze lezing toont Glenn D’Hondt aan hoe je verwondering kan ontwikkelen door het beoefenen van praktische filosofie en kunst, en hoe dit je helpt om beter te navigeren in het soms chaotische creatieve proces.

Over Glenn
Samen met Sylvia Meert vormt hij het creatieve duo Eugene and Louise. Al meer dan twintig jaar werken zij als professionele illustratoren, ontwerpers en makers voor onder andere Ketnet, Ikea, Nickelodeon, Coca-Cola en The Washington Post. Ze ontwikkelden eigen boeken, animatieseries én het bordspel Pictureka!, gelicentieerd aan Hasbro. Hun werk is bekroond en gepubliceerd door o.a. Gestalten, Pictoplasma en Thames & Hudson.

Vandaag de dag geeft Glenn les over creativiteit en cognitieve wetenschap aan de Arteveldehogeschool in Gent. Eugene and Louise is nog steeds hun creatieve speelveld, waarbinnen ze nieuwe projecten ontwikkelen in illustratie, animatie en keramiek.

Creativity is not a technique you apply only when needed. It is a way of being that flows through every aspect of your life. It begins with letting go of certainties and embracing the unknown. As Socrates once said: “I know that I know nothing.” This awareness of not-knowing is not a limitation, but rather an entry point into wonder – the state in which you are fully open to reality and creativity can flourish.

In this lecture, Glenn D’Hondt shows how you can cultivate wonder through the practice of practical philosophy and art, and how this helps you better navigate the sometimes chaotic creative process.

About Glenn

Together with Sylvia Meert, he forms the creative duo Eugene and Louise. For over twenty years, they have worked as professional illustrators, designers, and makers for clients such as Ketnet, Ikea, Nickelodeon, Coca-Cola, and The Washington Post. They’ve created original books, animated series, and the board game Pictureka!, licensed by Hasbro. Their work has been awarded and published by, among others, Gestalten, Pictoplasma, and Thames & Hudson.

Today, Glenn teaches courses on creativity and cognitive science at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences in Ghent. Eugene and Louise remains their creative playground, where they continue to develop new projects in illustration, animation, and ceramics.
